A song loved by just about anyone who's spent time around Tom Cribb, "Left Turn Away" is finally finding its way into the world. Out today on all digital platforms worldwide, it's the second single from Cribb's forthcoming album and arrives alongside an official music video.

"Left Turn Away" was written in about 20 minutes. It struck me like a hammer to the head. At the time, my life was pretty turbulent. I was couch surfing, living out of my car, had just quit my job, and was preparing to move to Australia.

During that period of transition, I felt completely open to whatever came next. The song seemed to write itself, as though I was simply a conduit receiving the words and music as they arrived.

The story of "Left Turn Away" draws heavily from the immense changes I was experiencing, alongside a carefree summer filled with newfound freedom. There's a sense of lightness and sarcasm woven through situations that are, at their core, quite heavy. Experiences that most people have faced or will face at some point in their lives.

At its heart, the song is about how quickly life can change. No matter where you are, you're always one unexpected left turn away from a completely different future. For better or worse, change is the only constant.

Waves is a nostalgic homage to music and the way it has shaped my life. Inspired by years of playing guitar on stage, in friends' lounges, backyards and alone in the wee hours of the morning, it captures the connections and defining moments those experiences create. It's centred on embracing the seasons of life while appreciating the past that's shaped you.

When Nikau and I recorded this song we felt something special had been created. We sang and it felt good, it's a song we both could relate to.

The title is a sports reference. The music is a reflection. The result is Garbage Time.

Manureva Records is proud to present Garbage Time, the debut album from New Zealand born, Melbourne based songwriter Tom Cribb, released today, 12 October 2026.

Co-produced by Nikau Te Huki of Casual Healing and recorded in one week in Wellington, it's a record of heartache, squandered potential and dry-humoured survival, working hard to find some resolution in troubled waters.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Leonard Cohen, Big Thief, Harry Nilsson and Andy Shauf, Garbage Time moves between indie, folk, country and alternative across nine tracks. Bittersweet vocals sit alongside warm, largely organic production, with an understated charm and a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly Cribb's own.

Across the record, Cribb reflects on friendship, loss, growing older and the things that don't always work out as planned.

Last Saturday, Tom brought the songs to life with a full band at Bar Open in Melbourne. More shows are on the way, and a second album is already in the works.
